Portrait shoot at Manhattan NFL Office

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

On Monday I went into the NFL’s Manhattan office to photograph Chris Henry, a 1991 graduate of my alma mater Skidmore.  He is the director of NFL Player Development.  No idea what that is?  In other words, to loosely quote my editor, he’s a psychologist who counsels NFL players about their re-entry into the job market after they retire from the NFL.  Over 300 NFL players leave the league every year, and their average career length in the NFL is only 3.7 years.

I would say his job is very safe in this economic climate.

Cyclist Portrait

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

After the successful cycling shoot last month, I decided to start taking portraits of the riders.  However, I wanted a cloudy day so I could really emphasize the person and let the background go dark.  When I saw that the following day would be rainy, I immediately set up a shoot with Tino.  While it didn’t rain, the sky stayed dark and cloudy the whole afternoon, allowing me to get just the right balance of strobe and ambient light.

Here are a few of the best shots from a couple weeks ago.
